Quality Assurance
Quality Assurance
Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) can and should be a part of any reliable business.
At Optimum Healthcare Solutions we are committed to quality - the quality of our programs, products and services; the quality of the professionals that make up our team; and the quality of the relationships we build.
This is especially true for our Universal Newborn Hearing Screening (UNHS) Program STAR System ®.
The main goals of our newborn hearing screening program are to: screen all newborns prior to discharge; minimize refer rates (the number of babies that do not pass the screening test); maintain a high degree of accuracy in identifying those newborns with a true hearing loss; and to provide appropriate follow-up for those babies that do refer.
Benchmarks have been established to enable comparison of individual hospital data with established standards of care. We use state of the art automated auditory brainstem response (AABR) technology. This type of screening device screens the entire hearing pathway form the outer ear to the brainstem, has standardized screening parameters that cannot be adjusted, and provides results that require no interpretation. This ensures that all newborns receive the same standard of care every time.
STAR Track ®, our proprietary data management software, allows for superior quality control of the entire STAR System Program. Patient data is stored in a high security database that is password protected, accessible only by authorized personnel and HIPAA compliant. Reports are easily generated for comparison with established benchmarks and state reporting of program results.
Our CQI process goes even further. It facilitates efficient allocation of our resources, evaluates on-going training needs of our staff and ultimately results in improved clinical outcomes.
As a result of our attention to quality, the STAR System UNHS Program achieves a refer rate of approximately 1%, much below the national recommendation of less than 4%.
All members of our team are expected to actively participate in our CQI initiatives. Participation at every level is what ensures the quality of everything we do.
